Today we talk with Peta Gillian about FITFlex.
Tell us about FITFlex
I like to refer to FITFlex as the Yin and Yang of Workouts. There are 2 components, both equally as important as one another.
1. FIT is not just about fitness. It stands for Foundational Intensity Training, focusing on the FOUNDATIONS, what’s practical and has a purpose in your everyday life now and in the future. You’ll start at your baseline and progress from there. After-all the baseline is different for all of us.
2. FLEX is FLEXIBILITY and your REWARD after your FIT workout. This is all about Recovery, Flexibility and Balance which is as important as building Strength. During Flex you’ll focus on lengthening and stretching your muscles.
Because both components are equally as important, we devote 20 minutes to FIT and 20 minutes to FLEX.
Why are you passionate about your class, and where did your passion stem from?
I’ve not always been a health and fitness enthusiast, this came to me later in my life, much later in fact, in my 40’s. But after a bit of socio-analysing over the years, I’ve discovered that I was affected by the health concerns that my grandmother went through and now my mum is suffering from the same preventable health diseases. The impact was so strong that it has influenced so many life decisions.
I faced a health issue in my 40’s and then menopause hit me like a tonne of bricks, which started the process of research and finding my way through strategies that completely transformed my health and I’ve been teaching these same strategies to thousands of other women since.
It saddens me when women say I’m too old, or that’s the way it is. It isn’t. I felt so passionate that I could make a difference to ageing woman and the community that I created Ageless Confidence – a free event that supports charity and introduces women to a wide range of topics and guest speakers.
What I’ve learnt during life is how confidence in “who we are” plays such a big part in embracing all we can be.
I’m on a mission to spread the word that age is not a barrier to being confident, healthy and active. I believe it’s never too late to share your life’s experiences with others and get that Sparkle and Shine back in your day.
Why should people attend your class?
We designed FITFlex to specifically counterbalance ageing, focusing on Strength, Flexibility and Balance.
You’ll notice daily activities improving like reaching higher cupboards, getting up and down easier, carrying a full basket of washing and walking up the stairs without holding on. Really what it’s all about is your Cherished activities and how they improve. You might want to garden all day, walk on the beach or hike a mountain. Or one of our favourites play with the grand-children, and I mean actually play with them, run, jump on the trampoline and ride bikes. And a personal one of mine, to be able to put your suitcase in the overhead locker or carry it upstairs during your travels.
But… why women really love FITFlex is they come for Fitness and Health, find a community to belong and make life-long friendships along the way.
What makes your class extra special?
We understand and know each and everyone of our members and are more than a group training session for women 50+.
We include Progressions and Regressions depending on levels and injuries. Workouts that Travel wherever you go. Weekly Q&A and Tips on health and wellness in our exclusive Client Connections group. We encourage our members to Actively Connect on their off days to allow recovery time and social interaction. When you first start out you get to work side by side with one of our Wellness Warriors who started where you are and have embraced a healthy lifestyle. Our Active Healthy Roadmap allows us to map out the journey to help you take one step at a time towards your wellness goals.
What experience do you create for your attendees? E.g. After they’ve attended, what might they think, feel, and remember about your class or activity?
The one thing that every new member says when they try FITFlex is “the women are lovely and so welcoming”. Connection and Community and is at the heart of everything we do.
Your experience with us, will be friendly and professional from the start to the finish. We contact you via phone and email to check in with you. You’ll be taken through the FITFlex Guide at the end of your session which explains the program, the recovery process and getting the most of your time with us.
At the end, you know you’ve done a workout, but you don’t feel like you’ve done a workout and that’s where the Yin and Yang comes into it. You’ll feel centred and relaxed and ready to tackle the world and that’s all due to the second component FLEX.
You’ll feel like it’s achievable and that anything’s possible. You’ll know you’re in the right place and feel excited to step into the life ahead of you.
What are you looking forward to the most when it comes to running your classes?
The most exciting part of FITFlex is seeing our members achievements. They sometimes don’t notice how much stronger they are getting until we point it out. It might be lifting heavier weights or getting further down on a pushup or a squat, but we notice it, and this puts a smile on our face. And when we point it out, they’re beaming too.
What’s even better is when we see our members body fat reducing and moving into a healthy range which means they might get to come off medications or reduce the level in same way. We love seeing the before and after doctors’ reports.
Any change for the positive in our members, lights up our day.
