How's are you exercising your brain?

Today Vicki talks to us about her Ageless Grace Brain Health Exercise Class

Why are you passionate about your class and where did your passion stem from?

I believe in this program, I enjoy the freedom it offers and the laughter we get from some of the brain challenges. It is such a fun way to “work out” the body and the brain at the same time. I love the reactions we  get from people who try this for the first time, they can’t help but  laugh. But my passion has come from the connections I have made with  people and especially with the ones who I’ve worked with who have late  stage dementia. It’s been a special journey.

Why should people attend your class?

If  anyone is concerned about their memory and cognition as they grow older  this program is perfect. It keeps the brain active but anyone of any ability can enjoy it, even if you hate exercise. The exercises are performed while seated so it creates a level playing field. If you are  caring for a loved one with dementia this is also great for both of you  and it's a nice social outing.

What makes your class extra special?

Laughter  is such a big part of this class. I put together music that you can  sing along to, that brings back memories and we let our imaginations run  free. I like everyone to feel comfortable and at home and I never  expect anyone to do any more than they feel capable of.

What  experience do you create for your attendees?

Everyone who attends this class leaves feeling happy. There is no pressure to break records, you perform at your own level, you are free to do your  own thing if you want to, and you will really enjoy the music.

What are you looking forward to the most when it comes to hosting?

Having  new people join the group who can experience the fun you can have  exercising in a chair and giving the brain a good workout at the same  time. It’s such a different program and I enjoy the feedback after the  classes. And I love that the attendees often want to hang around after  for a cuppa and a chat. That’s nice.
